Hon. Mark A. MacDonnell Appointed to Sixteenth Judicial District Court Bench

On Friday, December 21, 2012, Governor John Hickenlooper announced the appointment of the Honorable Mark A. MacDonnell to the district court bench in the Sixteenth Judicial District. Judge MacDonnell will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Hon. Jon Kolomitz, effective February 3, 2013.

Judge MacDonnell currently serves on the Bent County bench in the Sixteenth Judicial District. He also works as a solo practitioner and concentrates his practice on local government representation. He serves as a county attorney for Bent and Crowley counties; he represents the Bent, Crowley, and Prowers County Departments of Social Services; and he represents the City of Las Animas and several special districts.

Judge MacDonnell’s appointment creates a vacancy on the bench of the Bent County Court. The Sixteenth Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet on Monday, January 28, 2013 to select nominees to fill this vacancy. To be eligible for appointment, nominees must be qualified electors of Bent County and have graduated high school or attained the equivalency. Application forms are available from the ex officio chair of the nominating commission, Justice Marquez, or from the court’s website. Applications must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Suggestions of persons to fill the vacancy must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013.
